Is the Genome conscious? If it were conscious, what would it say?
In this drawing, the hand represents the Genome (which is why it has an ATGC on it). The pen represents the mechanisms of transcription, translation, ontogeny, and phylogeny -- in short, evolution. The line of text says, "help! I am trapped in the genome!", and can either be interpreted as either an mRNA transcript, or as the organism's psychophysical phenotype.
As I drew this piece, my thought process: 1. If the genome were conscious, it would want to demonstrate its consciousness to us. 2. Since we don't observe the genome communicating with us obviously, let us postulate that the genome is not conscious. 3. Who is the "I"…
