Description
This is a symbolic representation of a receptor embedded in the plasma membrane of a synapse. Specifically, it is a dopamine D2 GPCR. The complex is a dimer, observe that the shading on the two subunits are reflections of each other. Chelated within the complex are several metal ions and water-spirits. At the top of the image, the black droplet is dopamine being released from the pre-synaptic axon terminal. By the bottom of the image, the signal has been transformed into a new droplet - consciousness!
